Company Philosophy
The business was originally founded by Darlene T. Carver as a private postsecondary business school called Abbie Business Institute (Frederick, Maryland). After growing the school and attaining national accreditation, Darlene sold the business and created Merlin & Associates, Inc., a training and management consulting firm. To date, Merlin & Associates, Inc. has trained thousands of people in organizations, government entities, academia and non-profits around the world.

Ms. Carver has over 30 years’ experience working as a corporate trainer in public and private organizations. She is a coauthor of The Masters of Success and a contributor to the 1 Habit Series: 100 Habits from the Happiest Achievers on the Planet. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, has a BS in Business Education and an MBA.

Mr. Knight helps leaders develop their strategic thinking and create innovative improvement and growth strategies. He is an award-winning writer and a contributing editor for Strategy and Leadership (a business journal). He has a BS in Business Administration and an MA in International Relations.

Mr. Carpenter is a nationally recognized authority on leadership and management practices, who has excelled in management positions at IBM and Digital Equipment Corporation, and in three start-up companies that he helped launch. He has an MBA degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. His specialties include management training and development, team rebuilding, conference-seminar delivery, and executive coaching.
